Shadow Of The Tomb Raider - Crypts and Temples - Lighting

Gameplay lighting of few Crypts, temples and challenge tombs.
In-game capture on PS4 with photo mode.

When I started my career in video game in March 2018, it was to work on SotR. My first map I've ever had to work on was titled "Sarcophagus Crypt" (the first three screenshots). It's nothing exceptional, just a small crypt but it has a special place in my mind. I will forever remember opening the engine to light the crypt and being completely lost ^^
I learned a lot during the three months I worked on Shadow, thanks to whole team !

Sarcophagus Crypt.
The first map I've ever worked on. Such good memories ! I had a week to finish it; that was a good starting challenge!
The key light comes form the top with a bit of an angle so it doesn't fall straight on top of the water

The water needed to be really clear to give the feeling of a fresh water. I explored with caustics and post process filters to achieve the desired effect

Thirsty Gods Challenge tomb.
The tomb entrance. I've placed a spotlight to highlight the skull and to aide in highlighting details to establish a focal point.
You should know from here that it will be dangerous!

The focal point here was the skull. So the light was placed to hit it from the side, giving a nice shape to the head

I used the cold light from outside (right) to highlight the wood platform in the water, I used a warm light from the top to show where you have to go and I've added a bit of fog. It creates a nice mood to this area

You have finally reach the temple!

Temple Of The Sun
The biggest challenge here was to make the lighting fit within budget! The light rays are real volumetric lights.
